Where it All Began

After a very successful exhibition at Harvey Road Gallery, Mole Valley Quilters recruited many new members from the Guildford area. There were too many members for comfort, so members from Guildford, Merrow, Clandon, London Road, and Jacobs Well formed a breakaway group. Thus began Guildford Quilters. Initially there were about 8 to 10 members who took turns to meet in each other''s houses, until they became too big. They then started to hire the Jacobs Well Scout hut, a meeting room at Waterden Road and various other halls as they became available. These local home groups continued to meet and grow in their own areas but would come together monthly for speakers and workshops. This all occurred in 1985 and has continued to this day with a membership approaching 100, still with small home groups meeting regularly between the monthly meetings of Guildford Quilters.

Where We Are Now

At each meeting you can expect tea, coffee, cake and a friendly welcome. At every meeting we discuss some aspect of Patchwork Quilting, we have outside speakers several times a year, sharing their quilting experiences. We offer both external and in house workshops and our exhibitions result in contributions to local charities.
