Monthly Meeting November 2021

What a treat we had in store for our November meeting with Gail Lawther. Gail is a textile artist/quilter extraordinaire who thrilled us with examples of her work, many of which were inspired by her life on the south coast and visits to New Zealand. I particularly liked the fish-shaped wall hanging of a very splendid fish!

Gail has taught and exhibited in many countries and has written numerous books which were available for purchase along with some small quilts.

The “Doodlebirds” workshop followed next day where participants engrossed themselves in cutting, bonding and stitching their chosen design. Free motion quilting can present a challenge but with Gail’s lively tuition and patient guidance, we got there! The full written instructions in each pack will serve as a reminder of how to make a complete family of “Doodlebirds” in due course.

Time passed rapidly and it will be interesting to see the group’s completed designs and how each has been incorporated into a cushion cover, bag, wall art or quilt. See the Workshop Gallery for a taster of work in progress. It was definitely time well spent and worth every penny.

Do look out for upcoming workshops and come and join the fun.
