Contemporary Quilt Suitcase Collection
March 9th 2022
Manhole covers, road signs and maps, workers – human and animal, leaves and fleeing refugees were just a few of the many topics incorporated into the theme of ‘On the Road’.
Deena’s meticulous planning of our March meeting enabled groups of members to scrutinize and comment on a set of mini quilts. Deena’s introduction explained the definition of modern and contemporary quilts. Then with coffee mugs set aside and white gloves donned, we were able to begin the analysis of these complex and elaborate works of art. It was interesting to note the wide variety of texture and media used. The quilter’s statement on the reverse of each quilt was invaluable in understanding the objective of the piece. Each element of design was scored and much lively discussion and copious notes resulted. Finally, we had ‘Show and Tell’ and a summary of comments from a spokesman of every group.
Some of these quilts will be selected for the Contemporary Quilt 20th Anniversary Gallery at the Festival of Quilts in August. See if you can spot them.
Thank you, Deena for such an absorbing morning. Here’s to the next time!
