How did we get on at our FIRST Zoom workshop?? Read more….
Storm at Sea with Judi Kirk on Zoom
Wednesday 24th March 2021
We welcomed to Zoom 22 members and guests from as far afield as Birmingham, Derbyshire and Farnham.
Judi demonstrated a foundation paper piecing technique with a difference. It involved folding the pattern pieces, after securing the first fabric piece with a little glue, rather than the technique in which pins are used to secure the fabric and stitching is done along the lines of the paper pattern.
We found the orientation hard at first, but most of us got there in the end! We were able to sew the 3 main blocks in the class. Judi showed us her tips for piecing together the blocks to get perfect points on our triangles, and made suggestions on the tricky subject of quilting a design with curves.
The 3 hours of the workshop went by very quickly. It was hard work concentrating on the screen, sewing machine and the happy chat at the same time ! Gerry had setup a What’s App group of attendees in advance, and we have shared experiences and photos of our progress over the next few days. Our sewing skills have got better and better, and we have found this a quicker technique once mastered.
We enjoyed the workshop, and send a big thankyou to Judi. Check out some pictures of the lovely work sewn by some of our colleagues, over at Show & Tell. All the makers have given permission for their work to be reproduced.
